About James Concagh

Concagh's artwork has been about reflecting elements of urban characteristics of the city of São Paulo. For two decades now he has allowed himself to be influenced by both the Brutalist architecture and graffiti wall markings. The artist uses materials that reflect the nature of urban reality. He wants people to relate to his work in such a way that they can extract elements of it to try to make some sense of the fragmented wall markings. Over the last two years James has been focusing on a sereis of darker works on canvas.  These works lend themselves to a more introspective sense of fragmentation through hand sewn canvases soaked in black pitch paint.
